Chapter 22

Matt. 22:1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables, and said,

Matt. 22:2 the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a certain king, who made a marriage for his son,

Matt. 22:3 and sent out his slaves to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come.

Matt. 22:4 Again, he sent out other slaves, saying, tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fattened cattle are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage.

Matt. 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their way, one to his farm, another to his business:

Matt. 22:6 and the remnant took his slaves, and treated them spitefully, and slew them.

Matt. 22:7 But when the king heard of it, he was very angry: and he sent out his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

Matt. 22:8 Then he said to his slaves, the wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy.

Matt. 22:9 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you will find, invite to the marriage.

Matt. 22:10 So those slaves went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

Matt. 22:11 When the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

Matt. 22:12 so he said to him, friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment? But he was speechless.

Matt. 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, bind him hand and foot, and take him away and cast him into outer darkness, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matt. 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Matt. 22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His talk.

Matt. 22:16 So they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in reality, neither do You have regard for anyone: for You see into the face of man.

Matt. 22:17 Therefore tell us, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

Matt. 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, why tempt Me, you hypocrites?

Matt. 22:19 Show Me the tribute money. So they brought to Him a denarius.

Matt. 22:20 He said to them, whose image is this and inscription?

Matt. 22:21 They said to Him, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, therefore render to Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.

Matt. 22:22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him, and went their way.

Matt. 22:23 The same day the Sadducees came to Him, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked Him,

Matt. 22:24 saying, Master, Moses said, if a man die, having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and raise up children for his brother.

Matt. 22:25 Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no offspring, left his wife to his brother:

Matt. 22:26 likewise the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

Matt. 22:27 And last of all the woman died also.

Matt. 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.

Matt. 22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, you do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

Matt. 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Matt. 22:31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

Matt. 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Matt. 22:33 When the multitude heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.

Matt. 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

Matt. 22:35 Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and said,

Matt. 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the Law?

Matt. 22:37 Jesus said to him, you will love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind.

Matt. 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Matt. 22:39 And the second is like it, you will love your neighbor as yourself.

Matt. 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.

Matt. 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

Matt. 22:42 saying, what do you think of Christ? Whose son is he? They said to Him, the son of David.

Matt. 22:43 He said to them, how then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying,

Matt. 22:44 the Lord said to my Lord, sit on My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool?

Matt. 22:45 If David then calls Him Lord, how is He His Son?

Matt. 22:46 And no man was able to answer Him a word, neither dared anyone from that day forth ask Him any more questions.
