Chapter 16

John 16:1 These things I have spoken to you that you should not be made to stumble.

John 16:2 They will put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time comes, that whoever kills you will think that he does God service.

John 16:3 For these things they will do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.

John 16:4 But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

John 16:5 But now I go My way to Him that sent Me; and none of you asks Me, where do You go?

John 16:6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the reality; it is necessary for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

John 16:8 When He comes, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:9 of sin, because they believe not in Me;

John 16:10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and you see Me no more;

John 16:11 of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

John 16:12 I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot handle them now.

John 16:13 However when He, the Spirit of reality, comes, He will guide you into all reality: for He will not speak of Himself; but whatever He hears, that He will speak: and He will show you things to come.

John 16:14 He will glorify Me: for He will take of what is Mine, and will show it to you.

John 16:15 All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore I said, He will take what is Mine, and will show it to you.

John 16:16 A little while, and you will not see Me: and again, a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.

John 16:17 Then said some of His disciples among themselves, what is this that He says to us, a little while, and you will not see Me: and again, a little while, and you will see Me: and, because I go to the Father?

John 16:18 Therefore they said, what is this that He says, a little while? We cannot tell what He says.

John 16:19 Now Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him, and said to them, do you ask among yourselves of what I said, a little while, and you will not see Me: and again, a little while, and you will see Me?

John 16:20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice: and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

John 16:21 A woman when she is in labor has sorrow, because her hour has come: but as soon as she is delivered of the baby, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world.

John 16:22 Therefore you now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.

John 16:23 In that day you will ask Me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you will ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you.

John 16:24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name: ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

John 16:25 These things I have spoken to you figuratively: but the time is coming, when I will no longer speak to you figuratively, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

John 16:26 At that day you will ask in My name: and I say not to you, that I will pray the Father for you:

John 16:27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came from God.

John 16:28 I came out from the Father, and have come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

John 16:29 His disciples said to Him, look, now speak You plainly, and not figuratively.

John 16:30 Now we are certain that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You: by this we believe that You came out from God.

John 16:31 Jesus answered them, do you now believe?

John 16:32 Behold, the hour is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, every man to his own, and will leave Me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world!
