James Chapter 4

James 4:1 From what source are wars and battles among you? Are they not from this, even your own gratifications that wage war in your members?

James 4:2 You are coveting, and do not have: you are murdering, and zealous, and cannot acquire: you are battling and contending, but not possessing, because you are not asking.

James 4:3 You are asking, and not receiving, because you are asking improperly that you may squander it on your gratifications.

James 4:4 You adulteresses, are you not clear that friendship with the world is antagonism with God? Therefore whoever purposes to be a friend of the world is constituted the enemy of God.

James 4:5 Do you think that the Scripture says with no cause? He jealously longs for the spirit that resides in us.

James 4:6 But He gives the ultimate grace! Therefore He says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

James 4:7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:8 Be drawing near to God, and He will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:9 Be miserable, and mourn, and wail: let your laughter be changed into mourning, and your joy to depression.

James 4:10 Be humiliated in the sight of the Lord, and He will be lifting you up.

James 4:11 Do not be speaking against one another, brothers. He that is speaking against his brother, and is judging his brother, speaks against the law, and is judging the law: but if you are judging the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judges others?

James 4:13 Come now, you who say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and make a profit:

James 4:14 but you do not know what will be on the next day. For what is your life? You are even a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

James 4:15 For you ought to say, if the Lord wills, we will live, and do this, or that.

James 4:16 But now you boast in your pretensions: all such boasting is evil.

James 4:17 Therefore to him that is clear to bring about good, and does not bring it about, to him it is sin.
